Helping families release the strain of what they have lived through
Stress, loss and change can affect the whole family.
We support children, parents, foster carers and care teams with practical tools to release built-up tension and create greater calm.
Supporting adults to support the children
Stress, loss, change and uncertainty can affect every member of a family.
Sometimes the adults carry the pressure. Sometimes the children show the signs. Often, everyone is affected in a different way.
Through the Release Recover Discover Youth Mission, we help adults and young people understand how stress can build up in the body, and give them a practical way to release it.
Whether you are a parent, foster carer, kinship carer, residential care worker or supporting a displaced family, our aim remains the same.
To help create calmer adults, calmer children and stronger relationships.
Families Carry More Than We See
Across our communities, people are living with the effects of stress, trauma, loss, loneliness, financial pressure, family breakdown and difficult life experiences.
These pressures can affect how someone feels, thinks, behaves and connects with others. They may appear as anxiety, low mood, anger, poor sleep, physical tension, withdrawal or a constant sense of being overwhelmed.
Talking can help, but many people struggle to explain what they feel. Others may understand what happened to them but still feel the effects within their body.
Release Recover Discover offers another way forward.
We help people understand the link between their experiences, the tension held within their body and the problems they face today. Most importantly, we give them a practical way to begin releasing that tension safely.
‘Supporting The Adult Supports The Child’
Who We Support
Working Together to Reach the People Who Need Support
A Carer’s View
‘Before Beth began the sessions, she found it difficult to find an outlet for her emotions and often held everything in.
Over time, we noticed a real change. She became more open, more able to understand her behaviour and better able to take herself away, release what she was feeling and return to her day more settled.
The sessions have helped her come to terms with difficult experiences from earlier in her life, while learning that those experiences do not have to define who she is.
We have also seen a clear change in her whole demeanour. When she feels overwhelmed, she can now recognise it, step away and use the tools she has learned to help herself feel calmer.
Thank you for giving Beth strategies and life skills that she can carry with her for a lifetime.’

Supporting Parents and Families
Family life can bring pressure from many directions.
Relationship breakdown, illness, money worries, work demands, grief, caring responsibilities and past experiences can all affect how we respond to the people closest to us.
When tension builds, communication can become harder and small problems can feel much bigger.
Our approach helps adults understand how stress affects the body, recognise their own reactions and begin releasing built up tension.
This can help create more space for calm, clearer communication and stronger family relationships.
Foster and Kinship Care
Children entering foster or kinship care may have lived through loss, uncertainty, neglect, conflict or repeated change.
They may struggle to explain what they feel, so their behaviour can become the clearest sign that something is difficult.
Carers also carry pressure. Supporting a child through anger, fear, disrupted sleep, withdrawal or difficulty trusting others can be demanding.
We can support both the young person and the adult caring for them.
By helping carers manage and release their own tension, while giving young people age-appropriate tools to understand and release stress, we can help create a calmer and more secure environment.
You can also find further information about support available to foster carers through GOV.UK.
Children’s Homes
Young people living in residential care may have experienced many layers of change before they arrive.
Some will have moved between homes, schools, families or carers. Others may have lived through neglect, abuse, bereavement, family breakdown or long periods of uncertainty.
Staff working in children’s homes also carry a great deal of responsibility.
Release Recover Discover can support both staff and young people through simple education, practical tools and age appropriate programmes.
Where suitable, we can also train members of staff so the support stays within the home and continues long after our direct involvement ends.
Displaced Children and Families
For families forced to leave their homes, reaching safety does not always mean the effects of what they have lived through disappear.
Children and adults may be carrying the impact of war, violence, loss, separation, homelessness or sudden change.
A new country, language, school, home or community can bring another layer of uncertainty.
Our approach gives both adults and young people simple tools to understand how stress affects the body and how they can begin to release some of that tension.
This support can sit alongside the practical, medical and emotional help they may already be receiving.
Breaking the Cycle
Children learn from what they experience around them.
When adults begin to understand and release their own stress, they can respond with greater calm and create a more settled environment for the young people in their care.
This is how change can move from one generation to the next.
Support the adult. Support the child. Help change the future.
How We Can Work With You
We can explore support for:
- Individual parents and carers
- Foster families
- Kinship carers
- Children’s homes
- Family support organisations
- Charities
- Refugee and displaced family services
- Community groups
- Local authorities and partner organisations
Support may include education, access to programmes, workshops, staff wellbeing, facilitator training or a wider partnership.
We will work with you to find the most suitable approach.
A Sustainable Approach
We want this work to reach far beyond one workshop or one group of children.
Where possible, we aim to train suitable adults within organisations and communities so they can continue supporting the people around them.
That creates something sustainable.
One trained adult can support many young people.
One calmer household can affect several lives.
One organisation can change the experience of hundreds of children over time.
This is how change grows.
Help Us Reach More Families
Every child deserves the opportunity to understand their body, release built up tension from stress and discover that their past does not have to decide their future.
Every adult supporting that child deserves tools too.
If you support families, foster carers, children’s homes or displaced communities, we would love to hear from you.
Be an Inspiration for the Next Generation
Every programme purchased helps fund facilitator training in schools, giving young people a life tool to release stress, build resilience, and feel more in control of their lives.
